on 2019-11-27 10:14 pm (UTC)He was more comfortable just fading into the crowd and that would have been fine, except for one thing. He'd accidentally caught the attention of a classmate from another clan, someone he'd.. well, he'd been aware of Wei Wuxian, because who wasn't with the way he tended to make himself known.
Not in a bad way, but he had a tendency to act without considering all the consequences and sometimes Wen Ning wished he was that bold. Granted, his intelligence and skill would have set him apart anyway, but being as outspoken as he was tended to get him noticed for the wrong reasons.
And somehow Wei Wuxian had zeroed on him. He still had no idea why, not really, but it was becoming a routine for the other teenager to show up wherever he was and that was drawing more attention than he was comfortable with.
But he couldn't say as much without being rude, at least not in his own mind so he'd been trying to find new places to study, which was why he'd settled in this corner of the library on campus. Clubs were meeting elsewhere so he had some quiet.
Maybe.

on 2019-12-03 10:41 am (UTC)And there's that pipingly cheerful voice, much too loud to be appropriate within a place for quiet study. Almost as soon as the words are out of his mouth, several of the more serious students in the area, not to the librarian, are all hissing at him to shush. To his credit, Wei Wuxian does lower his voice to a still very audible stage whisper, an effort somewhat contradicted by him just kind of taking a seat on the table next to Wen Ning's books.
"It's so musty and dusty back here... How can you stand it? Besides, it's a beautiful day! How about we take off and go have some fun instead?"
As for why Wei Wuxian isn't attending any clubs, well, he's either tried them and gotten bored with them after about a week, gotten kicked out, or had been preemptively banned from even joining.

on 2019-12-03 04:30 pm (UTC)"I was trying to study." When he finally responds, his voice a little unsteady. "And it's quiet here. I like it." It was easier to focus and people didn't really look at him, or hadn't until now.
Still, it'd be rude to say no, and if they left, at least the other students could study, which is why he's shoving books and papers into his bag.
"We can..maybe outside.." Talk outside is more or less what he means, at least.

on 2019-12-18 12:02 am (UTC)Which hadn't changed in the time he'd been away and he exhaled a slow breath before he started removing his robes to get ready for bed. It was early by Lotus Pier standards, but he'd gotten used to the schedule at Cloud Recesses and it was easier to just readjust gradually.
He had to be up early for training in the morning.

on 2020-01-23 06:01 am (UTC)Because he couldn't face that. Not yet, not even when he was standing there dry-eyed watching them lower the coffins into the ground. He hadn't cried a single tear since he'd stepped foot into the hospital morgue to identify items found on the bodies of his family.
Of everyone he'd grown up with. His mother ring had survived and now rested on his finger and the fire had been ruled an accident allowing for release of the bodies. Once the graves were filled that was when he turned to start walking away.

And then he turned the corner and stopped dead in his tracks when his eyes locked with the man approaching him, his breath catching in his throat. Because that face was unmistakable and given how many mights he saw it in his dreams...
"....Wei Ying?"
no subject
on 2020-01-29 12:13 am (UTC)His head has been full but disjointed since awakening, like a hard drive in desperate need of a defrag. His memories are hazy and full of strange blanks and holes that simply don't fill, no matter how hard he strains himself. A quick test had shown him his powers remained intact, powers he only half-remembers how to even use properly. He'd been able to figure out pretty quickly that his body was his own but it shouldn't be. Once the upload had completed, his body should've shut down, his biological brain destroyed by the procedure in the process.
And then someone calls his name. His real name. Wei Ying freezes on the spot, slowly looking up at the speaker. The still very handsome speaker. He stares wide-eyed a moment, cheeks slightly flushed in embarassment? Surprise? What does he even call this feeling?
But one thing is very clear, at least.
That's clearly recognition on Wei Ying's expressive face.
"...Lan Zhan?"
no subject
on 2020-01-29 12:18 am (UTC)Because he responded.
Because Wei Ying recognized him and it takes everything he has not to crush the other man to his chest, to kiss him senseless as he drinks in the sight in front of him. Wei Ying alive and moving and not dead in his arms as his last memory of his love.
"..How.?" It slips out, shock clearer in his tone than he'd like it to be.

on 2020-02-02 07:57 am (UTC)It was worth it.
He rarely went into the Underground unless it was to locate Wei Wuxian and today was no different, his footsteps moving, the darkness rendering him all but powerless as he moved through the crowded areas, looking for Wei Ying. This was his last chance at redemption and bringing him home was Wangji's priority.
Had always been his priority.

on 2020-02-02 09:13 am (UTC)The Underground, with its minimal natural light and plentiful shadows, is an expansive arsenal in his hands. Enemies that come within a given radius of him here will find themselves attacked seemingly by ghosts, their movements no longer under their control as a phantom force manipulates their limbs like marionettes. So long as Wei Ying's shadow touches theirs and in this place, where everyone's, including his own, have blended into one, he can protect himself.
As long as Wei Ying remains in the Underground, he'll be safe.
He strolls the streets, wearing a black hoody and torn jeans in an attempt to blend in with the other losts souls seeking to disappear here. He's tired and exhausted from running and he hates this place more than anyone could ever know, but there's nowhere else he can go.
Finally, Wei Ying spots him and lets out a strangled sound, somewhere between a cry and a sob, instinctively bolting toward him, hand outstretched.

on 2020-02-02 09:17 am (UTC)"I'm here."
Because that's all that matters right now. That Wei Ying is in his arms and safe as far as he's concerned.
"...What happened?"

on 2020-02-08 06:05 am (UTC)...Which means he ends up just waiting and watching his husband dance, his expression neutral, fingers twitching at his sides.
don't be grumpy, LWJ, look how happy your idiot is to see you!
on 2020-02-08 09:51 am (UTC)Once the dance is over, his mission accomplished, and the girl's number has been stuffed into his pocket, he heads off the dancefloor. The girl seemed pretty sweet and reminded him a little of his sister; maybe he could invite her over for dinner with him and Lan Zhan sometime.
One the way, Wei Ying spots his husband, brightening instantly, as he bounds over to him with a happy grin.
"You made it! I was just trying out all the drinks. They've got a lot of really fancy ones that are pretty tasty! This place serves good stuff."
Seemingly oblivious to the warning sign those twitching fingers present, he chatters on merrilly, wrapping his arms around Lan Zhan's neck.
"Everything all right at the school?"

on 2020-02-13 08:43 am (UTC)Jiang Cheng is standing there, holding the letter in shaking hands, eyes blazing as he stares at Wei Wuxian, his voice rising. "The stories are just stories, we'll be fine, what's the worst that could happen?! You ... " His voice cracked on the words.
"A-jie went and gave herself to him so we could come home. She ..."

on 2020-02-15 12:30 am (UTC)"Shijie..."
The way he speaks her title is filled with such grief and despair that it might seem pretty startling when Wei Wuxian immediately bursts into action, running around the house and packing supplies for another journey. That he's exhausted and in no condition to suddenly launch a rescue mission on the spot isn't entering his mind, at all.
Only one thought is consuming his mind right now and that's saving their sister from that beast in the ruins. He has to fix this. He has to bring her back home where she belongs.

on 2020-02-13 11:13 am (UTC)It's a side effect of living for as long as he has. Always outgoing and inquisitive, he's never been one to shut himself away from the world for very long . In the days before achieving his own kind of immortality through demonic cultivation and experimental elixirs, he'd ventured away from Burial Mound as often as he could. However, exposing himself to so many people over thousands of years has forced him to grow in ways he never could've achieved in his own lifetime.
He's lived through the rise and fall of dynasties, the destruction of culture and civilization as he'd known it, and the rise of a new age and government, so different from the one he'd known. But he doesn't expect the current China to last either. All dynasties crumble eventually, no matter what one frames them as.
He's taken lovers throughout the milennia, with various degrees of reluctance, enough to lose much of the stubborn romanticism of his youth and insistence that Lan Zhan is his one and only. Forever in theory differs greatly from forever in reality, after all. Not that this means that he cares Lan Zhan any less sincerely or deeply, despite his ageless life, there is still a secure place in his heart that's forever reserved for his first love. It just means that it's not the obsessive, all consuming force in his life it was when he'd been human.
Despite all of these internal changes and contrary to what one might expect, the vast passage of so many years has brought Wei Ying closer to being the carefree, happy-go-lucky youth he'd been before Lotus Pier had fallen. Time heals all wounds , eventually, if one has focus and will to accompany it and he's had millenia to develop both. The easy smile and bright eyes, now tinged with an ageless wisdom that he's never been able to completely mask, are intact.
"Working hard again, I see. Do you ever take breaks?"
His tone is teasing and familiar, that of a very old friend or acquaintance, as he casually sits down on the table next to Lan Zhan's books. And he is both, indeed. Wei Ying even has the same ponyail he'd had in his youth, even though it's quite a bit shoulder. He is wearing a somewhat heavy leather coat over his t-shirt and jeans. His immortal body just doesn't retain heat very well, at all.

on 2020-02-24 01:54 pm (UTC)They'd been more tag-a-longs on the hunt than anything, leaving the vast majority of the work to Sizhui and the others while they waited in the wings to lend support if it became necessary. And he's spent most of his day hovering over his husband and whispering filthy fantasies in his ear every chance he's had.
All these fantasies had one recurring theme in common: they involved him taking Lan Zhan for a change.
But now that they're alone in the jingshi and junior free, Wei Ying bounds up to him, slipping his arms around his neck and smiling.
"So have you thought about it? Do you wanna try it a different way?"
